Chalk & Cheese - 2 Diamonds

Round 1 of The Irish Professional Photographers Association (IPPA) was held last night and I came away with 2 Diamonds, 1 Gold and 3 Silver for his 6 images entered in the Landscape category.
I was very pleased with the results especially the 2 Diamonds as they are the complete opposite ie Chalk & Cheese. First here are the 2 Diamond images :
Ballymoney Sunrise, Co Wexford.
Snow Cover forest, Co Cavan
One was taken on a planned trip and the other one was taken on the spur of the moment at the side of the road. Also, the equipment used was different as one was taken handheld with a compact camera and the other a pro DSLR on a tripod. The time of day was different, very early before sunrise and late afternoon.
Two great examples I will be using to hammer home to my students when I am doing my Workshops or Lectures that you have to understand the fundamentals of photography and the camera you have in your hand instead of rushing out and buying the top of the range new features button pressing digital camera.
Oh yes another difference is that one is has large areas of shadow detail and the other is lovely white snow with highlights and detail.
So here we have two completely different images with one thing in common. Both are Diamond award winning images.
